NEW HARTFORD —

The New Hartford Central School District’s proposed budget for next year includes a spending increase of more than 7 percent, according to a preliminary plan released at Tuesday night’s board meeting.

But how that would impact town residents’ property taxes will remain unknown until officials release the revenue portion of the proposed 2009-10 budget.

Superintendent Robert Nole said he is waiting to see how much the district will get in state aid and federal stimulus funds before he completes the budget.

Under the plan, spending would increase 7.3 percent — from $43 million this year to $46.4 million.

Among the areas where spending went up: Salaries rose $635,526 to about $21 million. The district’s capital project also accounted for a $2 million increase in spending, although some of those funds will be reimbursed by the state.

Last week, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., announced the New Hartford district would receive about $654,771 in direct education funding from the federal stimulus package.

At the same time, however, there is about $1.4 million less in state aid for the school district in Gov. David Paterson's proposed budget than was provided in 2008-2009.
