NEW HARTFORD —

Former New Hartford Comptroller Patrick Tyksinski has received the Republican Party endorsement in his bid for town supervisor, according to his rival for the nod, John Kalil Jr.

Tyksinski and Kalil, both Republicans, screened before the New Hartford Republican Committee Thursday night. Neither Tyksinski nor Republican officials could not be reached.

Current Town Supervisor Earle Reed has said he won’t be running for a second term.

Tyksinski served as New Hartford town comptroller from 1998 to the end of 2001. He was appointed to the position by the Town Board, but when Ralph Humphreys became supervisor in 2002, he abolished the position.

Tyksinski also ran for supervisor in 2005, when he was defeated in a primary by Reed.

In a previous interview, Tyksinski said during his years as comptroller, he had worked with other town officials to get town finances in order.

Recent reports have shown the town’s finances are in trouble. The town’s main rainy day fund has dwindled from $2.8 million to just $250,000 since 2006, when Reed took office.

Kalil, 38, is a financial adviser. He said he would consider running for the office despite not getting his party’s nod, and he may try to screen before other parties to see if they will back him.

“I would certainly be willing to run if others were willing to step forward in support of me,” he said.

Kalil said he would work to make the town’s budget process more open to the public, and would even seek to create a citizens’ budget committee.

He said he also wants to see more openness in town government in general.
